Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has been named as the chief selector of the men's team for the second time. Inzamam took up the job after Haroon Rasheed stepped down from the role last month.
Inzamam's first tenure as Pakistan's chief selector was from 2016-2019. Once again, his appointment comes at a time when he will have to pick a team for ODI World Cup 2023 which is less than two months away.
However, the first order of business will be to select the squad for three-match ODI series against Afghanistan on Sri Lanka soil which will commence on August 22 after the completion of the Lanka Premier League (LPL).
It will be followed by the 50-over Asia Cup which will be partially hosted by Pakistan.
Inzamam has represented Pakistan in 120 Tests, 378 ODIs, and a solitary T20I. In Tests, he has scored 8,830 runs at an average of 49.60 including 25 centuries and 46 fifties. In ODI cricket, he has scored 11,739 runs from 350 innings at an average of 39.52 including 10 centuries and 83 fifties. The Multan-born batter made his international debut in 1991 and retired in 2007.
