BCCI parted ways with Dream11 right before the start of Asia Cup 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently in the process of finding a new title sponsor for both the men's and women's national cricket teams. The previous sponsorship deal, which was worth Rs 358 crore over three years and was set to run until March 2026, was terminated prematurely due to the introduction of the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025' in the Lok Sabha last month.

As a result of this unexpected change, the BCCI was left without a lead sponsor for Team India, which went into the recent Men's T20 Asia Cup 2025 without one. To fill the void, the board has announced a fresh tender. Today, September 12, is the last day for interested parties to purchase the Invitation of Expression of Interest documents, with bid submissions due on September 16.

The BCCI's goal is to have a new sponsor in place before two major upcoming tournaments. The Women's ODI World Cup 2025 is scheduled to begin on September 30, and the men's team will start their Test series against the West Indies on October 2. According to Arun Dhumal, the current IPL Chairman, a new sponsor should be finalized within the next 15 to 20 days.

“I think what is done is done (on Dream11’s exit). I would not like to talk about that. But we have started the ball rolling as far as the next sponsor is concerned. I am sure within 2-3 weeks we will get to know that,” Dhumal told reporters on the sidelines of the PlayCom 2025 summit.

BCCI is actively seeking a new title sponsor for the national cricket teams after the early termination of its deal with Dream11. This change was prompted by the Indian government's recent passage of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill. Since Dream11's core business revolves around real-money gaming, the company was forced to end its sponsorship prematurely.

Dream11's contract, which was valued at $44 million (around INR 358 crore) and was meant to last until 2026, included a specific exit clause for unforeseen government regulations. This allowed the company to withdraw from the agreement without penalty. The search for a new sponsor is now a top priority for the BCCI.

In addition to securing a new sponsor, the BCCI has another significant event on its agenda: the election of new office-bearers. This is scheduled to take place at the board's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28 at its headquarters in Mumbai.

“For sure, we have the nomination starting in a week’s time. So we will get to know. We will have a better picture as to who is going to be the next BCCI chief," Dhumal concluded.
