Last played an ODI nearly a decade ago, pacer Ishant Sharma achieved a personal milestone in Delhi's Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) quarter-final clash against Vidarbha. Leading the side in the absence of Ayush Badoni who received maiden ODI call-up, Sharma led Delhi in the knockout game. With the wicket of Vidarbha opener Atharva Taide, he completed 200 wickets in List A cricket.

In the quarterfinal clash at BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 2, Bengaluru, Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first. The veteran pacer was economical with the new ball, conceding 18 runs in four overs. He introduced himself back into the attack in the 23rd over. In the next over of his second spell, he knocked over Taide. The opener scored 62 runs from 72 balls.

Sharma came back to bowl in the slog overs. In the 48th over, he got Nachiket Bhute out caught behind. He bowled nine overs, conceded 47 runs and claimed two wickets.

In last six games, Sharma had claimed seven wickets. His tally of wickets in the ongoing VHT is nine wickets. His average has been outstanding at 17.88. Also, his economy rate is impressive at 3.65 runs per over.

Ishant’s List A tally of wickets

The 37-year-old has 201 wickets from 141 List A games at an overage over 28. He has claimed one fifer and 10 four-fers in the 50-over format.

It has been more than four years since his last appearance in international cricket. He played a Test in Kanpur against New Zealand in 2021.

Vidarbha post fighting total -

Apart from Sharma, Navdeep Saini, Prince Yadav and Nitish Rana bagged two wickets apiece as well. After Taide departed, Dhruv Shorey missed his fifty by just one run. He lost his wicket to Yadav. Ravikumar Samarth got off to a start but couldn't convert it as Harsh Tyagi caught him short of the crease with a direct hit.

Yash Rathod kept the scoreboard ticking while wickets fell on the other end. Rathod was eventually dismissed in the penultimate over of the innings. He scored 86 runs from 73 balls. His crucial knock featured eight fours and two sixes. Vidarbha managed to post 300/9 on the board.
