Indian star speedster Mohammed Shami who is out of cricketing action since 2023 said that he will feature for his domestic team Bengal before making his international comeback. Shami last featured in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against Australia which was played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shami was the highest wicket taker in the ODI World Cup where he picked up 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, with the best figures of 7/57 in the tournament.
He is currently on the road to recovery from an Achilles tendon injury. However, he has started training in nets, he also shared a video on his social media where the pacer can be seen bowling. There are rumours that he could make his return in the Bangladesh Test series, but Shami has quashed those reports, stating that even he doesn't have a timeline for his return.

“It’s difficult to say when I will be back,” Shami was quoted as saying during his felicitation ceremony by East Bengal club here earlier this month.
“I am trying hard, but hopefully you will get to see me in Bengal colors before I don the India jersey again. I will come to play two-three matches for Bengal and will come fully prepared for it," Shami said.
Shami has missed the Indian Premier League (IPL) after that he missed T20 World Cup 2024 where India won the tournament defeating South Africa in the final. Rohit Sharma & Co. want Shami to make a comeback considering India's upcoming busy Test schedule. He will be the vital cog for India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 which will be hosted by Australia this year.
BCCI have announced the squads for the Duleep Trophy where they have added Rishabh Pant this is the first red-ball assignment for a wicketkeeper batter since his cricketing comeback. However, Mohammed Shami is not the part of Duleep Trophy 2024 for the first round of the tournament.
