Rohit Sharma expressed his feelings of winning the ICC trophy.

The Indian captain Rohit Sharma expressed his emotions and feeling following the historic T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. In true Rohit fashion, he exclaimed, "Jaan mein jaan aayi," which translates to "I got my life back" after India defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on June 29 in Barbados. When Hardik Pandya successfully defended 16 runs in the final over against South Africa, a range of emotions broke out on the pitch. Rohit who was overwhelmed in emotions collapsed to the ground while his teammates gathered around to applaud. Rohit also lifted Hardik Pandya in his arms out of happiness during a post-match interview.

"Our main aim was to win the World Cup. Once we won the World Cup, it felt like I got my life back once again. I am in front of you now, opening this new academy. I can guarantee that the next Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah will come out of here only," Rohit said during the launch event of a cricket academy in Kajarat.

Rohit's wait for ICC trophy comes to an end

India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 put an end to their 11-year wait for an ICC trophy. Rohit has consistently expressed in public how excited he is to win a World Cup for India. Under his leadership, India lost to England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final on November 10 and to Australia in the heartbreaking ODI World Cup 2023 final on November 19.

Rohit would not give up, though, as he returned to the T20I team to captain India in another World Cup despite all the losses. India went the entire competition with a perfect victory record. With a 24-run victory over Australia, they exacted revenge for their final defeat there. Rohit smashed 92 runs to lead India to the semi-final. India also had their revenge against England as they thrashed the defending champions by 68 runs.

In the top match, they came up against South Africa, and India scored 176 runs, with Virat Kohli chipping in with a 59-ball 76. South Africa needed just 30 runs in 30 balls to win their first World Cup title, despite some early blows, before India rallied. One of the biggest heists in the tournament's history was accomplished by the Men in Blue. This was also Rohit Sharma's last T20I as he and Virat Kohli confirmed their retirement from the game.
