Premium Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has become the first pacer and fifth overall player from India to win the prestigious ICC men's Cricketer Of The Year title. Earlier, he also won the Test Cricketer Of The Year title following an astonishing performance with the red ball. Bumrah was one of the most instrumental players for India in T20Is, helping them win the T20 World Cup 2024 and end their trophy drought. Earlier, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin and Virat Kohli have also won this award. Virat won it consecutive two times.

Bumrah won the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Award after defeating fierce competition from Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook. After Virat Kohli (2017, 2018), Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), and Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), the bowler became the fifth Indian to win the prize. After becoming India's most impressive player in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, when he took 32 wickets, Bumrah was also named the ICC men's Test Cricketer of the Year.

Jasprit Bumrah on winning the award

In addition to expressing his happiness at receiving the honour, Bumrah said that winning the 2024 T20 World Cup would always hold a special place in his heart.

"I am really happy to be winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Men's Cricketer of the Year award. Last year was really memorable, especially winning the T20 World Cup in Barbados. It will always be close to my heart. When I was a youngster, I saw many of my heroes winning this ICC award. I am very happy to be on the receiving end," said Bumrah.

The Indian pacer turned his focus to the T20 World Cup after putting on an outstanding home debut against England. India defeated South Africa in the final to win the trophy, and Bumrah finished the tournament with 15 wickets at an average of 8.26. The Indian bowler was recognized as the Player Of the Tournament for his efforts. Bumrah stood out from the other nominees thanks to his performance in Test matches. In 13 games, the pacer took 71 wickets, the most of any bowler in 2024.

In order to be ready for the Champions Trophy in February, the Indian pacer is now recuperating from a back ailment he sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.Â
