India's T20 World Cup 2024 'player of the tournament' Jasprit Bumrah on July 8 posted a video of the rousing reception team got after ending the ICC trophy drought. In the video, Bumrah can be seen thanking the fans during the victory parade and at Wankhede Stadium.
"I am so thankful for the last few days. I've been living a dream and it has filled me with happiness and gratitude," Bumrah wrote on X along with the video post.
Kohli’s golden words for Bumrah
In the first half of the video, Virat Kohli’s voice can be heard in the background. Kohli who retired from T20Is after the 76-run knock at Kensington Oval, Barbados, termed Bumrah as ‘once in a generation bowler’.
"What I would like everyone to do is to applaud a guy who brought us back into games again, and again, and again. It was phenomenal. He is a once in a generation bowler. I am so glad he plays for us," Kohli said during the felicitation ceremony in Mumbai.
While Arshdeep Singh was the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 17 wickets, Bumrah bagged 15 wickets and conceded runs at a record-breaking economy rate of 4.18 runs per over.
Recently, Bumrah was welcomed by fans with flower petals in Ahmedabad. He is likely to be seen in action again when India tour Sri Lanka for the ODI and T20I series later this month.
When Bumrah showed rare emotions
Bumrah was exceptional in the final against South Africa. While Hardik Pandya took the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen, he put pressure on Proteas batter and dismissed Marco Jansen.
After the win, Bumrah showed rare emotions as he received the ‘player of the tournament’ trophy.
“Usually I’m the one who tries to keep my emotions in check, to try to focus on the job but today I don’t have a lot of words, the emotions are taking over. I don’t usually cry after a game but this feels really special. Midway stage we felt we were in trouble but to pull off a win like this is an unreal feeling. I'm just really over the moon,” the 30-year-old said in the post-match presentation.
“My son is here, my family is here and I could do something special for India. We've been working really hard towards this and we've come close and fell short last time but we were able to go through this time, there's no better feeling than that. You play the sport for this, for these days, for big stages when you do well and get your team through, there's no better feeling.”
