But all eyes will be on India's star batter Sanju Samson, who has also been included in the squad and is expected to play a key role for Kerala, alongside experienced campaigner Sachin Baby. Notably, Samson was part of India's triumphant side, who recently clinched the Asia Cup 2025 title after crushing Pakistan in the final.
Mohammed Azharuddeen to lead Kerala pack
As far as Azharuddeen is concerned, he played a key role Kerala's Ranji Trophy campaign last season and also led South Zone in the Duleep Trophy. And now he will lead a squad that blends solid experience with promising local talent. The inclusion of Baba Aparajith, a seasoned performer on the domestic circuit, provides Kerala with a reliable middle-order option and additional leadership depth. Rohan S Kunnummal continues to be a key figure at the top of the batting order.
The team's balance is further strengthened by the presence of promising all-rounders Vathsal Govind Sharma and Akshay Chandran. Additionally, Kannur's Salman Nizar features prominently after a strong domestic run. Kerala has also secured another guest signing in Ankit Sharma, a left-arm all-rounder, to bolster the side.
The bowling attack for Kerala features several familiar faces. The new ball duties are expected to be shared by pacers Nidheesh MD and Basil NP. Providing rotation and depth are emerging youngsters like Edhen Apple Tom and Ahammed Imran from Thiruvananthapuram. The spin department will rely on support from players such as Shoun Roger and Abhishek P Nair.
Kerala will kick off their Ranji Trophy campaign at home against Maharashtra on October 15. This fixture will mark a swift and interesting reunion, as it will pit Kerala against their former stalwart, Jalaj Saxena, who switched his allegiance to Maharashtra ahead of the season.
