South African spinner Keshav Maharaj created history in the second Test match against West Indies where the hosts won the match by 40 runs to take 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The first Test match between South Africa and West India ended without a result. In the second Test match, Maharaja becomes the highest wicket-taking spinner in Tests for South Africa.

After taking 8 wickets in the first Test match played in Port of Spain, Maharaj needed 5 wickets to break Hugh Joseph Tayfield's record. He bowled a short spell in the first innings of the second Test and took 2 wickets for 8 runs. After this, in the second innings of the second Test, he took 3 wickets for 37 runs. So he picked 5 wickets for 45 runs in 17 overs and created history. Maharaj now has 171 wickets in 52 matches.
He is the highest wicket-taking spinner in South Africa's history. Maharaj took a total of 171 wickets with an average of 30.78. During this, his strike rate was 58.91. Maharaj has 5 wickets to his name. He has also taken a 10-wicket haul once. Apart from this, his best bowling figure is 9 wickets for 129 runs.

Because of Maharaj's excellent performance, South Africa's team has gained two places and now the team has reached the 5th position. On the other hand, Pakistan and England teams have lost one place. On the other hand, the West Indies team is still at the last position with only 1 win in 9 matches. The South African team has to play a series against Sri Lanka.
The left-arm bowler has finished the series with 13 wickets. He was awarded the Player of the Series award with 13 wickets in the two-match series against the West Indies.
