The latest standings of the ICC men's T20I rankings have been released. With three half-centuries in T20 World Cup, Indian opener KL Rahul has moved to career-high fifth on the rankings. On the other hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has dropped to eighth despite a half-century against Pakistan in the first match.
After poor performance in the opening two games, the veteran Indian opener stepped up his game and scored three consecutive fifties to take his tally to 194 runs. The Karnataka batter is India’s highest scorer in the tournament. Meanwhile, Kohli was slightly unfortunate to have his rankings dropped. A fifty in the opening match against Pakistan was followed by just 11 runs in the remainder of the tournament. Notably, he did not get to bat against Afghanistan and Namibia whereas he remained unbeaten for a couple of runs against Scotland.
Prior to the T20 World Cup Kohli was ranked fourth in the rankings. He dropped to fifth on the eve of the tournament and has since dropped to eighth. The 33-year-old who was taking the charge of the T20I team for one final time ended up with just 68 runs from three innings in the tournament. Things won’t get any better for Kohli as he has been rested for the upcoming three-T20I series against New Zealand.
As per the latest rankings, Pakistan captain Babar Azam stands at the top of the standings followed by Dawid Malan of England. Aiden Markram and Aaron Finch complete the rest of the top five. Mohammed Rizwan is another Pakistan batter who comes in the top 10. Rassie van der Dussen has also achieved a spot in the top 10 rankings of the ICC Men's T20I batter rankings after his unbeaten 95 against England. The bowling rankings saw the rise of Australian duo of Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood grabbing the fifth and eight spot.
