Like father like son: Mohammad Azharuddin shares memorable partnership with son Asaduddin in Friendship Cup 2022

Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin had a memorable moment on the field as he played with his son Asaduddin in the recently-concluded 2022 Friendship Cup that was held in UAE.


Memorable partnership

In the match 6 of the tournament, India Legends team were in action against Pakistan Legends. Batting first, India Legends team had registered a total of 107 runs losing three wickets in 10 overs.


Azharuddin and his son notched a brief partnership of 19 runs off nine balls. Azharuddin eventually remained not out scoring four runs off six balls as his son Asaduddin played a good knock of 45 runs off just 22 deliveries. His innings was comprised of 4 boundaries and 3 sixes.


Azharuddin also shared a video of their partnership on Instagram. He also wrote, “It’s a special moment when you share the pitch with your son. Proud to see Asad’s name along with mine on the same screen. #FriendshipCupUAE2022 where @asad_ab18 played exemplary cricket scoring some big runs at Sharjah stadium.”


Apart from Asaduddin, opening batter Sanjeev Sharma scored crucial 37 runs off 23 balls for India Legends. He smashed 5 boundaries and a solitary six.


For Pakistan Legends, their bowlers Mohammad Irfan, Abdur Rauf and Naved-ul-Hasan scalped one wicket each.


The run chase

In reply, opening batsman Salman Butt played a terrific innings of 65 (not out) off 30 balls to help his side in securing the victory. Later, Yasir Hameed contributed with 29 runs off 18 balls to claim the victory. Eventually, Pakistan Legends reached the target in 9.1 overs, losing just two wickets.


For India Legends, their bowlers- Imtiyaz Ahmed and Jai Prakash Yadav picked up one wicket each.


In the final match of the tournament, played on March 7, Imran Nazir-led Pakistan Legends defeated the World Legends team by 14 runs.


Batting first, Pakistan Legends reached a solid total of 133 runs losing five wickets. Butt (45 runs) and Mohammad Sami (36 runs) helped their side in reaching a good total.


In reply, World Legends could reach a total of 119 runs losing four wickets, in 10 overs as eventually, the Imran Nazir-led Pakistan Legends won the final match of the tournament by 14 runs.
