Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been elected the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The electoral office announced the new body of BCCI on September 28 at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). He is the 37th president of the BCCI, succeeding Roger Binny who turned 70 years old last month.
Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia have been re-elected as BCCI vice-president and secretary respectively.
Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has replaced Rohan Gauns Desai as joint secretary. Bhatia was previously the treasurer of the BCCI. Now, A Raghuram Bhat is the new treasurer of the BCCI.
Jaydev Niranjan Shah has been elected as the member of the apex council. Arun Singh Dhumal and Khairul Jamal Majumdar have been inducted into the Governing Council.
Who is Mithun Manhas?
Manhas was nominated by Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) where he has served as administrator. He made his first-class debut in 1997/98 season. He represented India Under-19 and A side as well. Despite a good record in first-class cricket, he did not get his senior cap as the Indian lineup already had the likes of Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid.
Manhas has played 147 first-class games, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of 45.82. He has 27 centuries and 49 fifties in red-ball format. His best Ranji season was in 2007-08 when Delhi won the title. He scored 921 runs at an average of 57.56.
Manhas had a decent record in List A cricket too, scoring 4,126 runs from 130 games at an average of 45.84, including five centuries and 26 fifties. He was handy with off-spin as well. He has 75 wickets, including 40 in first-class cricket. He could keep wickets as well.
Manhas has played for three IPL franchises – Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), now defunct Pune Warriors India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He has played IPL from the inaugural season to 2014. From 55 games, he scored 514 runs at an average of 22.34 and strike rate of 109.36. He didn't have a fifty in his IPL career.
