Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Faf du Plessis will join their sister club Texas Super Kings as their captain for the inaugural American T20 League called the Major League Cricket. The announcement was made by Texas Super Kings while the same was confirmed by Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Chennai Super Kings.
Du Plessis has played for CSK but currently captains the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). But apart from the IPL, he is associated with other sister teams of CSK. He captains the Joburg Super Kings in SA20, which is South Africa's new T20 league.
This is just one of many players attached to CSK that have joined the Texas-based franchise, Earlier, they confirmed the signings of Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Gerald Coetzee, Daniel Sams and David Miller as overseas players.
Rayudu will now play in the MLC after calling time on his IPL retirement. Among Texas' drafted players are Sami Aslam, Calvin Savage, Zia Shahzad, Cameron Stevenson, Milind Kumar, Lahiru Milantha, Saiteja Mukkamalla, Cody Chetty and Rusty Theron. All these players currently play cricket for the USA.
Who's in the Texas Super Kings coaching staff?
The well-known faces of Stephen Fleming and Eric Simmons will take over the coaching of Texas. Both of them are also with the coaching staff of Chennai Super Kings. Fleming will be the head coach while Simmons and Albie Morkel will be the assistant coaches. The same pair also handle the CSK coaching staff for the JoBurg Super Kings.
When will the MLC 2023 be played?
Six teams are participating in MLC 2023 and the tournament will be played from July 14 to 31. All the teams will play one match each in the group stage after which the playoff matches will be played. This league also has teams from Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL. Microsoft chief Satya Nadella also has a stake in the team. Texas and LA Knight Riders will compete in the first match of MLC 2023.
