"You mean so much to me Mum. Hope you're feeling better very soon," Shami wrote on Instagram along with a picture for him with his mother.

Shami's mother, Anum Ara, experienced health issues during the World Cup final between India and Australia. As per a Times of India report, she felt nervous and developed a fever while watching the match from Sahashpur village in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. Concerned for her well-being, Shami's relatives quickly took her to a local hospital. After initial treatment there, she was moved to a more specialized health center. Thankfully, the latest reports indicate that her condition has now stabilized.

The cricketing journey of Shami in this World Cup was nothing short of extraordinary. He joined the tournament midway, making his first appearance in India's fifth league stage match against New Zealand. From there, his impact on the tournament was profound and unparalleled by many. In just seven matches, he took 24 wickets at an astounding average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20. His best figures in the tournament were 7/57. His remarkable performance included three five-wicket hauls and a four-wicket haul, setting the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in World Cup history.

After such a physically and emotionally demanding tournament, Shami has been given a well-deserved rest. He will not be part of the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Australia, which starts on November 23. This break will not only allow him to recuperate physically but also to spend time with his family, especially his mother during her recovery. Shami's journey in the World Cup 2023 has been a testament to his resilience and skill, making him a standout player in the tournament and a source of inspiration for many.
