In a match repeatedly interrupted by poor weather and fading light, Bangladesh managed to extend their lead to 179 runs on Day 4 of the first Test against Pakistan at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Despite less than 49 overs of play being possible, the hosts reached 152/3 by stumps. The innings was anchored by resilient half-centuries from Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who combined for a crucial 105-run partnership for the third wicket to keep the pressure on the opposition.

The stand was not without its moments of fortune, particularly for Mominul. He benefited from a slice of luck early in his innings when an outside edge deflected off the wicketkeeper’s pads and landed just short of the slip cordon. Later, having reached 43, he was handed another life when Fazal dropped a catch at short leg shortly after a lengthy 130-minute break caused by a combination of lunch and rain.
The day had begun with mixed fortunes for the Bangladeshi openers. Shadman Islam showed immediate intent by cutting Shaheen Afridi for a boundary off his very first delivery to get the scoreboard moving. His partner, Mahmudul Hasan, faced a far more difficult outing; after narrowly surviving a run-out following a miscommunication between the wickets, his struggle ended when he was trapped leg-before-wicket by Mohammad Abbas for just five runs.

Shadman Islam’s resistance proved short-lived as Hasan Ali made an immediate impact. In his opening over of the day, Hasan found just enough movement to find the outside edge of Shadman's bat, providing Pakistan with an early breakthrough. While the Pakistani bowlers maintained a disciplined line and length, they struggled to consistently penetrate the defense of the Bangladeshi batters. Their eagerness to make further inroads even led them to unsuccessfully burn a DRS review early in the session.

Despite losing Mominul late in the day, Bangladesh refused to retreat into a defensive shell. The remaining batters managed to crunch several boundaries, maintaining the scoring momentum and keeping the pressure on the bowling side. However, their progress was cut short as deteriorating light conditions forced the officials to bring an abrupt end to the day's play.
