The Jharkhand State Housing Board has sent a notice to legendary India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni over the alleged misuse of a residential plot in Ranchi, an official confirmed on Friday.
According to the notice, the plot allotted to Dhoni was meant strictly for residential purposes. However, authorities claim the property is being used for commercial activities, which would be a violation of the terms under which the land was granted.
Jharkhand Housing Board on MS Dhoni's residential plot
Jharkhand Housing Board Chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan told Aaj Tak that several plots in the area had been allotted for residential use. When reports emerged that some of these plots, including Dhoni’s, were being used commercially, notices were sent out to him, multiple officials, and dozens of others asking for explanations.
Paswan explained that the alleged “violation of norms and regulations” came to light during an inquiry conducted by the board. Following the findings, a final notice was issued to Dhoni seeking clarification on the reported misuse of the property.
The state board might cancel the allotment of the plot
The official added that if Dhoni fails to respond or provide a satisfactory explanation, the board may start proceedings to cancel the allotment of the plot, following established procedures and regulations for residential land.
MS Dhoni's current residence
Dhoni currently lives in his newly built home on Ring Road in Ranchi. The plot under scrutiny is his former residence on Harmu Road. Allegations surfaced that a diagnostic facility was being run from the Harmu Road property, prompting the Housing Board to launch a formal investigation.
Similar allegations regarding misuse of residential plots have also been raised against the state office of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Harmu Road. Notices were previously issued in that case as well.
Officials said investigations into both matters are ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
MS Dhoni who already announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket will now be seen featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) which is scheduled to start from March 28.
