Defending Women's Premier League (WPL) champion Mumbai Indians (MI) has retained a core group of five players ahead of the season's auction. The list is headlined by their successful captain, Harmanpreet Kaur. The franchise also secured the services of key international all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt, along with Amanjot Kaur, Hayley Matthews, and G. Kamalini. The auction, where the remaining squads will be finalized, is scheduled to take place on November 27 in New Delhi.
The BCCI has allocated a fixed auction purse of Rs. 15 crore for each franchise for the upcoming season. To manage player retentions, specific price brackets were established: the first retained player commanded Rs. 3.5 crore, the second Rs. 2.5 crore, the third Rs. 1.75 crore, and the fourth Rs. 1 crore. For teams like Mumbai Indians that chose to retain a fifth player, the price bracket was set at Rs. 50 lakh. These retention costs are deducted from the team's total auction purse, leaving them with the remaining funds to bid for new players.
“If a franchise opts to retain five players, Rs. 9.25 crore would be deducted from its purse, while for four, the deduction would be Rs. 8.75 crore; for three, it would be Rs. 7.75 crore; for two, Rs. 6 crore; and for one, Rs. 3.5 crore,” MI's official statement read.
