India's young explosive batter Jemimah Rodrigues has signed a deal with Northern Superchargers just three days before the first match of The Hundred’s 2023 edition. Rodrigues will be replacing Australia's Heather Graham who got injured ahead of the tournament.
Earlier this year in March, Rodrigues was not retained by Superchargers. She also missed most of the second edition due to a wrist injury.
Meanwhile, in a big blow to the tournament, two big Australia players in the form of Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry have pulled out. Both Healy and Perry suffered injuries during Australia's second ODI clash against Ireland and have been called back by Cricket Australia (CA) to prevent risk of aggravating the injury.
Rodrigues’ maiden season
Rodrigues was the second-highest run-scorer in the inaugural edition of the 100-ball format tournament. She had scored 249 runs from seven games at an average of 41.50 including three half-centuries. She had an impressive strike rate of 150.90. Her highest score was unbeaten 92.
Excited Rodrigues
"I'm so excited to be back in The Hundred. It's a world class competition and I've had so much taking part in it previously," Rodrigues was quoted as saying in a press release.
"I was very disappointed to have to withdraw last year through injury so it's great to be back. Headingley is a brilliant ground to play at with great fans and I can't wait to be back out there,” the 22-year-old added.
The Superchargers will begin their campaign on August 3 against Birmingham Phoenix at Headingley, Leeds on August 3.
Rodrigues is the fourth Indian player who will be a part of the Hundred. India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana will play for Souther Brave, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will play for London Spirit whereas the captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be a part of Trent Rockets.
