Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen lavished praise on Abhishek Sharma and went on to label him as the "most complete opening batter" as of current in the shortest format. This comes after Abhishek was recently adjudged as the Player of the Series as India's five-match T20I assignment against Australia. The left-hand batter finished as the series' top-scorer with 163 runs under his belt and continued his thunderous form in T20Is.
Abhishek has been in sublime form in T20Is as of recent and he had also been adjudged as the Player of the Tournament in Asia Cup and had scored a total of 314 runs in seven innings. Taking to social media, Pietersen remarked that the 25-year-old is fearless, courageous and talented.
“Not surprised at all by this. Abhishek is the most complete opening batter in T20 cricket. Fearless, courageous and talented!" Pietersen wrote in a post on X.
Abhishek breaks huge record
With his unbeaten inning of 23 runs against Australia in the fifth T20I, Abhishek scripted history by becoming the fastest batter to score 1000 runs (as per balls taken) in T20Is. He currently has 1012 runs under his name in the format from 29 matches, including two centuries and six fifties. 2025 has been a phenomenal; year for the left-hand batter as he has been the Men in Blue's highest run-getter in T20Is with 756 runs from 17 games. In less than a year, Abhishek has become a pivotal part of India's T20I set-up and will be looking to keep up his performance in upcoming assignments.
India to face South Africa next
India's next T20I assignment will be another five-match series, but this time it will be against South Africa on home soil and will begin from December 9. With this being among the team's final few series before the 2026 T20 World Cup, it will be important for the team to produce good performances and keep up their sensational form in the format.
