Veteran Australia batter Steve Smith has named Sachin Tendulkar as the greatest batter that the sport has ever seen. The legendary India cricketer is the highest run-getter in international cricket with 34,357 runs in 664 matches. Tendulkar also has uncountable reecords under his name in both the Test and ODI format. Additionally, he also took 201 international scalps in his illustrious career.

Smith was asked to name the greatest batter of all time during a quick-fire round with BBC Sports Wales. He first took the name of Jacques Kallis, however quickly changed his answer to Tendulkar. The Australia batter also remarked that Kallis is the greatest cricketer to ever grace the game.

“I’d go with Jacques Kallis. I think, sorry, the greatest cricketer of all time is Jacques Kallis. Greatest batter of all time is probably Sachin Tendulkar," Smith stated.

Meanwhile, Smith is currently featuring for the Welsh Fire in The Hundred. The batter hasn't really been able to get going in his first three matches of the tournament and has only been able to score a total of 58 runs so far. He will definitely be looking to improve his form in the upcoming matches.

On the other hand, Smith is now only an active player in Tests when it comes to international cricket. He had announced his retirement from the one-day format earlier this year when Australia had gotten eliminated from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. His next big assignment will be the five-match Test series against arch-rivals England which is set to commence later this year from November 21.The 36-year-old has got a fine record against the Three Lions on his home soil and will be looking to play many more remarkable knocks in the all-important series.
