He takes over the office from Greg Barclay.

Jay Shah has become the youngest International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman following his 5-year long stint as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary. He will take over the office from December 1, 2024. He is the successor of Greg Barclay, who decided not to compete for the honorary designation after completing his tenure of four years. Shah will join Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar on the list of Indians who have held the post of ICC head or chairman.

The cricket's top governing body at present has 16 members since there isn’t a Women Director yet. During the nomination stage, Shah got backing from 15 out of the 16 individuals as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) only played the role of mute observer during the whole process of nomination.

As per a report from News 18, When strong cricket boards like the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Australia (CA) were supporting and backing Shah's appointment, PCB did not say a word and chose to remain silent.

"There wasn’t any word from PCB. Not that it was required because Shah had overwhelming support from the members. But the Pakistan board preferred to play the role of a spectator during the entire process," told a source close to developments to News 18.

Shah on becoming the ICC Chairman

"I am humbled by the nomination as the Chair of the International Cricket Council. I am committed to working closely with the ICC team and our member nations to further globalize cricket. We stand at a critical juncture where it is increasingly important to balance the coexistence of multiple formats, promote the adoption of advanced technologies, and introduce our marquee events to new global markets. Our goal is to make cricket more inclusive and popular than ever before," said Jay Shah on becoming ICC Chairman.

"While we will build on the valuable lessons learned, we must also embrace fresh thinking and innovation to elevate the love for cricket worldwide. The inclusion of our sport in the Olympics at LA 2028 represents a significant inflection point for the growth of cricket, and I am confident that it will drive the sport forward in unprecedented ways," he added.
