PCB reacts to Jason Gillespie's non-payment accusations, says 'he is the one who owes PCB four months' salary'
Danny Reuben (L) and Joe Root of England talk to Jason Gillespie of Pakistan before the second Test against Pakistan at Multan Cricket Stadium on October 14, 2024 in Multan, Pakistan.

Story Highlights:

Jason Gillespie was with Pakistan Test team for nearly 8 months.

Gillespie hopes he gets rumeneration for his time as head coach.

PCB says Gillespie owes them four months' salary for not serving notice period.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has dismissed their former head coach Jason Gillespie's claims of not receiving his full remuneration for role as head coach of the Test team. In turn, PCB said that Gillespie breached the terms of contract as he stepped down from the role abruptly.

Former Australia pacer left the position within months of joining. Pakistan were without his services as head coach of the Test team for South Africa tour and Aqib Javed had to take over.

"As per the contract, if PCB had terminated Jason Gillespie's services, we would have been liable to pay him four months' salary. But if he resigned, he was required to give prior notice and pay four months' salary to the board," a PCB spokesperson was quoted as saying on Pakistan Cricket. "Since Gillespie himself withdrew from the role, he is the one who owes PCB four months' salary. Therefore, his claim of unpaid dues is incorrect."

What Gillespie said

Gillespie had said that he is disappointed but hopeful that he gets his dues from the PCB soon enough.

“Yes, without going into details. I'm still waiting on some remuneration from work that's being done. So I'll just navigate through that in due course”, Gillespie said in an interview with PakPassion.

“Admittedly, that's been a little bit disappointing, but hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later. But yes, we'll learn. But yeah, as I said, hopefully that'll get sorted as soon as possible,” he added.

Gillespie's earlier accusations

Gillespie had earlier accused PCB of blindsiding him. The PCB informed high-performance coach Tim Nielsen that his services are not required without having a clear communication with Gillespie.

The 50-year-old had also said that the experience as head coach in Pakistan has had a major effect on his desire to coach again.

“The Pakistan experience has soured my love for coaching, I’ll be honest,” Gillespie said. “I’ll get it back, I’m sure I will, but that was really a blow.”

Meanwhile, the PCB is yet to announce Pakistan team's new head coach.
