Prithvi Shaw scored a stunning hundred in his debut knock for Maharashtra

Prithvi Shaw made a big impact in his very first knock for Maharashtra and did so by scoring a sensational hundred for the side in the Buchi Babu Invitational tournament. He played a superb inning against Chhattisgarh at Guru Nanak College in Chennai on Tuesday. The 25-year-old reached triple figures after facing 122 deliveries and hitting 14 boundaries along with a maximum.

Maharashtra started the inning well thanks to a 71-run opening partnership between Shaw and Sachin Dhas, but soon ended up suffering a batting collapse and lost four wickets in the space of just 15 runs. The side needed stability and it was Shaw who stepped up and formed a valiant 57-run stand with Siddharth Mhatre.

Shaw would go on to reach his hundred soon after that and it couldn't have come at a better time for him. The batter had been going through an immensely rough patch which saw him fail to conjure up big scores on many occasions. This knock will definitely help him in improving his morale as he heads into the domestic season with Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Shaw joined Maharashtra earlier this year. He left Mumbai after they had dropped him from the squad for Ranji Trophy and he wasn't picked for the Vijay Hazare Trophy either. With him not being anywhere close to making an appearance for the national team in any format, the batter decided to make a bold move and joined Maharashtra in order to make a change in his fortunes.

“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years,” Shaw had said after joining Maharashtra.

This move came after Shaw had gone unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction last year and no franchise had decided to go after him even as an injury replacement. Following this disappointment, the batter decided to feature in the T20 Mumbai League contested earlier this year in June. It now remains to be seen if he will be able impress in the upcoming domestic season for Maharashtra.
