Rahul Chahar did not have a good day at the office as he turned out to be India A’s most expensive bowler against South Africa A. Chahar toiled hard for wickets on the pitch of Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein. However, into his 25th over, the leg-spinner lost his cool after the umpire’s decision did not go his way. Disappointed with the umpire’s decision, an angry Chahar threw his sunglasses on the ground.
The incident happened In the second session of Day 2. Chahar bowled from around the stumps and appealed aggressively after the ball hit Sinethemba Qeshile’s pads. Qeshile was trying to defend on the back foot and Chahar felt that he has trapped in front of the wickets. However, the ball may have pitched outside leg stump because of which umpire shook his head despite a long and loud appeal from Indian fielders.
After Chahar’s reaction, the on-field umpire had a word with the bowler. The 22-year-old argued with the umpire trying to explain to him where the ball had pitched. After the heated exchange, he picked up his sunglasses to go back to his mark to bowl the last ball of the over.
Earlier in the over, he was hit for a six by Qeshile. The Rajasthan-born bowler got only one wicket during his long spell. Left-handed batter George Linde was beaten by Chahar in the flight as he got stumped out by Upendra Yadav.
Chahar conceded 125 runs at an economy rate of 4.40 in the 28.3 overs he bowled. South Africa A dominated Indian bowlers on first two days and posted 509 for seven wickets before declaring the innings. Skipper Pieter Malan scored 163 whereas Tony de Zorzi scored 117 runs. Jason Smith and Qeshile too contributed with their respective half-centuries.
