"I will definitely want to go out there & win the World Cup for my country, that is something that I've always looked upon, I've grown up watching this 50-over WC. There was no T20 WC, no IPL, no WTC back then and that was the pinnacle of Cricket which used to happen every four years so there was desperation, there was so much weight for that one troph, I really want that trophy so I'm gonna try and do everything in my power and capacity to work hard and get it"
Rohit, who already retired from Tests and T20Is, last represented India in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, where the BlackCaps defeated the Men in Blue 2-1 in the three-match series.

India under Rohit Sharma's captaincy
Notably, Rohit failed to win the ODI World Cup in 2023, where he led India in the tournament. The Men-in-Blue were unbeaten in the league stage and dominated all other teams. However, they faced a huge setback against Australia in the final, losing by six wickets. After that setback, the legendary batter captained India to two ICC titles in a short 1-year gap. Rohit Sharma-led side won the T20 World Cup in 2024, defeating South Africa in the final, and after that, the hitman guided Men in Blue to the ICC Champions Trophy triumph in Dubai. However the the BCCI shockingly appointed Shubman Gill as he sucessor to lead India in the ODIs during the team's first assignment against Australia.
