It turned out to be a bittersweet ending for Prithvi Shaw on his Maharashtra debut as they lost by 36 runs to Jharkhand in their Buchi Babu Trophy 2025 clash. In the run chase of 185, Maharashtra were bowled out for 149 in the second session on Day 3 as leg-spinner Shubham Agrawal wreaked havoc with a six-wicket haul.
Maharashtra fall short of tricky 185-run target
On Day 3, in the run chase of 185, Shaw departed early for a single as he got bowled by left-arm spinner Shashank Tiwari. Siddesh Veer and captain Ankit Bawne shared a 65-run partnership to get the run chase back on track. Rishi Sharma broke the partnership by getting Veer stumped for a 66-ball 31. Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Siddharth Mhatre were sent ahead of Ruturaj Gaikwad but departed for single-digit scores. Gaikwad could not do much either after just one run in the first innings. He scored just 11 runs from 32 balls. Maharashtra lost five wickets for 120.
Wicketkeeper-batter Saurabh Nawale failed to make an impact and was dismissed for a four-ball duck. Agrawal ended Bawne's resistance as well. The skipper scored 66 runs from 115 balls, including four fours. Sachin Dhas tried to revive the run chase with an 18-ball 14 but the collapse continued and Maharashtra were bowled out for 149.
Shaw lacks support from other end
Earlier, Chattisgarh won the toss and opted to bat first. Sanjeet Desai's 93-run knock and Avnish Singh Dhaliwal's fifty helped them post 252 on the board. In reply, Shaw scored 111. The opener's ton was followed by Nawale's unbeaten fifty. But, Maharashtra were bowled out for 217. Chattisgarh got a 35-run lead.
Ostwal, Walunj bag fifers
In Chattisgarh's second innings, none of the batters barring opener Ayush Pandey made an impact. Pandey scored 49 runs from 88 balls, including three fours. Vicky Ostwal and Hitesh Walunj claimed five wickets each to bowl out Chattisgarh for 149. They managed to set a target of 185.

Maharashtra's next clash is against TNCA President's XI starring August 22. Gaikwad will have another chance to gear up for Duleep Trophy 2025.
