Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup 2024: Abhishek Sharma's Agri King Knights reaches semis on same day captain receives maiden India call-up, Trident Stallions top points table

Mandeep Singh (90 off 49) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 21) continued their great form and helped the Agri King's Knights pick up a big 55-wun win in the match against Intersoft Titans during the ongoing edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup which has been organised by the Punjab Cricket Association at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, on June 24 (Monday).

 

Riding on form and experience, Mandeep Singh (90 off 49) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 21), Agri King's Knights recorded a fine 55-run win over Intersoft Titans in a match played during the ongoing second “Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup” being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Monday. Mandeep Singh (90 off 49) and Abhishek Sharma (45 off 21) continued their great form and helped the Agri King's Knights pick up a big 55-wun win in the match against Intersoft Titans during the ongoing edition of the Sher-e-Punjab T20 Cup which has been organised by the Punjab Cricket Association at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, on June 24 (Monday).

 

Agri King Knights batted first and managed to post a good total of 202/9 in 20 overs. Opener Sahaj Dhawan gave the team a good start and smashed a 41-run knock off just 22 balls and did not allow the pressure to build after the departure of his fellow other opener Varinder Lohat. He was joined by Sahaj. The duo progressed the scoreboard at a rapid pace. Mandeep demonstrated his mettle and smashed the opposition bowlers all over the park. After Sahaj got out, captain Abhishek Sharma, who also received his maiden India T20 team call-up for the upcoming India tour to Zimbabwe, came to bat and continued the onslaught against bowlers. Mandeep and Abhishek added 74 runs to and helped their team get past the 200-run mark.

While Abhishek got out for 45 but Mandeep remained unbeaten on 90. His knock included nine fours and three sixes. Abhishek also smashed four sixes and two fours. The Knights lost nine wickets in 20 overs. For Titans, veteran pacer Siddharth Kaul scalped four wickets, giving away only 20 runs. In response to this, the Titans were restricted to 147/9 in 20 overs. Pukhraj Mann scored the highest 52 off 31 but it was just not enough. For the winning team, Abhishek Sharma, Harjot Singh, Sumit Sharma, and Vinay Chaudhary took two wickets each.

 

Trident Stallions top the table

 

Trident Stallions picked up their 7th win of this season after defeating Royal Phantoms by 3 wickets. They even topped the points table with this victory. The Stallions finished first on the basis of better net run rate. Along with the final league match, the semi-final lineup of Season 2 has also been decided.

 

In the first semi-final which is scheduled to take place on June 25, Trident Stallions will face Agri Kings Knights from 3 pm. In the second semi-final, JK Super Kings will up agianst the defending champions BLV Blasters. This match will be played in Mohali from 7.15 pm.

 

Earlier in the last league match, Royal Phantoms batting first put 160/7 on the scoreboard in 20 overs. All-rounder Sohraab Dhaliwal played a stunning knock of 79 runs off just 40 balls. Gurnoor Brar took 2 wickets for Trident. Gurwinder Singh, Aryaman Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Sameer Khan setteled with one-wicket each. In the chase, Trident had a great start with the help of opener Abhay Choudhary, who scored 40 runs in 21 balls, and Prabhsimran Singh's 45 runs. Trident did lose some wickets but chased down the target by just 15.3 overs. Anmolpreet Singh took 4 wickets.
