Shubman Gill has been appointed as India's Test captain.

India vs England five Test match series is scheduled to start from June 20.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a 17-member squad for the five-Test match series against England and Shubman Gill has been appointed Rohit Sharma's successor to lead India in the longest format of the game. The upcoming red-ball assignment in England will be Gill's first red-ball assignment as a captain. Rishabh Pant will be his deputy.

The five-Test match series between India and England is scheduled to start from June 20 and this will be the first assignment for the Men in Blue after a 3-1 humiliating defeat in Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The squad features Karun Nair, who returns to the national set up up after seven years. A notable exclusion was pacer Mohammed Shami, who was deemed not fit enough for the long series. From the tour of Australia, Harshit Rana and Sarfaraz Khan have been dropped.

"Last year or so we have looked at Shubman (for leadership). We are hopeful he is the guy who is going (to take the team forward). It is a high pressure job but he is a terrific player. We wish him all the best," said chief selector Ajit Agarkar after announcing the squad.
