Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced Chamari Athapaththu-led 17-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against India and South Africa which is set to begin on April 27. Sri Lanka have made as many as six changes to the squad that played in New Zealand.
The three uncapped players named in the squad are Malki Madara, Dewmi Vihanga and Piumi Badalge. Meanwhile, Inoka Ranaweera, Hasini Perera and Hansima Karunaratne have been recalled in the squad. Udeshika Prabodhani is out injured whereas Imesha Dulani, Sachini Nisansala, Kaushini Nuthyangana and Chethana Vimukthi have been dropped the from the squad.
Madara, the leg-spinner, recently made her T20I debut on New Zealand tour. She claimed three wickets at an average of 17.66 and an economy rate of 5.38 runs per over. Badalge is a 29-year-old batter whereas Vihanga is a young talent who represented Sri Lanka's Under-19 team last year. She played for them in Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup 2023 as well.
An ODI debut is on cards for 18-year-old all-rounder Rashmika Sewwandi who recently made her T20I debut but did not get to bat or ball.
The tri-series opener will be played between hosts Sri Lanka and Harmanpreet Kaur-led India on April 27. Each team will play two games each against the other two sides. The final is scheduled to be played on May 11.
