Batting great Javed Miandad expressed his dismay at the management of cricket in the country, stating that the frequent appointments and changes within the Pakistan team have eroded the confidence of the players.
"I have not seen cricket governance anywhere in the world like we see in Pakistan and these state of affairs are really sad," Miandad told media during a ceremony held here to launch the Sindh Premier League.
The ex-Pakistan captain, with 124 Test appearances, remarked that the recent governance of cricket has adversely impacted both the team and its players.
"I don't think anywhere such frequent appointments and changes in cricket are made and it only means that we don't have continuity in our cricket structure and more importantly the players don't gain confidence," he said.
Following the ODI World Cup, a series of appointments unfolded in Pakistan cricket, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shan Masood designated as T20I and Test captains, respectively, following Babar Azam's resignation from all formats.
After the World Cup in India, Mohammad Hafeez also assumed the role of director of cricket.
Miandad expressed concern that Pakistan is gradually lagging behind other teams due to the management of the sport by the cricket board in the country.
"Since last year we have had a really bad time in terms of our team’s performances and people who have no knowledge of cricket sit and take decisions which affect the entire structure in the country," he complained.
The Pakistan team recently suffered a 0-3 defeat in the three-Test series against Australia, followed by a 1-4 loss in the five-match T20 series against New Zealand.
In the first innings at the SCG, Pakistan took the lead with Aamer Jamal's remarkable performance, claiming six wickets and scoring 82 runs. However, they faced a setback in their second innings, leading to Australia's victory by eight wickets.
This defeat marked Pakistan's 17th consecutive loss in Test matches on Australian soil. Following the Test series setback, Pakistan is gearing up for a new era in T20Is under the leadership of their new captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi.
