Suryakumar has scored 927 runs as the Indian captain in T20Is

India captain Suryakumar Yadav is on the verge of achieving a massive milestone in T20Is. He will have a chance to become just the fourth Indian captain to score more than 1000 runs in the shortest format. He has so far captained the team in 42 T20Is, scoring a total of 927 runs including a century and six fifties. It remains to be seen if he will be able to play a big knock in the fifth and final T20I of the series against New Zealand on January 31.

Suryakumar is currently behind the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni on the list. Rohit had scored 1905 runs in 62 T20Is, Virat had scored 1570 runs in 50 T20Is and Dhoni has scored 1112 runs in 72 T20Is.

Indians to score the most runs as captain in T20Is -

1. Rohit Sharma - 1905 runs

2. Virat Kohli - 1570 runs

5. Hardik Pandya - 296 runs

Suryakumar chasing another major feat

In addition to this, Suryakumar will also have a chance to surpass the 3000-run mark in T20Is in the upcoming clash against New Zealand. The 35-year-old has so far scored a total of 2967 runs in 103 T20Is, including four centuries and 23 half-centuries. He has a blistering strike-rate of 164.74 and has picked up his form in the ongoing series against New Zealand. After not being able to score a half-century in 2025, the batter recorded scores of 82* and 57* in the second and third T20I respectively. It remains to be seen if he will be able to end the series on a high note.

India's stunning form in T20Is

The team has been in top form under Suryakumar's leadership and are in top form heading into the 2026 T20 World Cup. They have won their assignments against the likes of Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. They will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7 with the clash against USA at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
