Suryakumar Yadav undergoes successful surgery for sports hernia in Germany, posts update from hospital

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav successfully underwent surgery for sports hernia in Germany. On June 25, Suryakumar shared a photo after the operation along with an update on his social media handle. 

"Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery. I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back," Suryakumar wrote in the post. 

 

 

This isn't the first time Suryakumar has underwent a sports hernia surgery. In January 2024, he had a procedure as well. Earlier, in December 2023, he underwent an ankle surgery. 

Suryakumar's performances in recent past

Suryakumar was last seeen in action in Mumbai's T20 League 2025. where he was captain of Triumphs Knights MNE. His team did not make it to the semifinals. 

Before that, Suryakumar was in fine form. He was the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 34-year-old scored 717 runs from 16 innings, averaging 65.18. He scored at a strike rate of 167.91. He scored five half-centuries in the season.

Suryakumar's next appearance for India

Suryakumar has nearly two months to recover before India's next T20I assignment. India will tour Bangladesh next month for limited-overs series. In case Suryakumar does not regain full fitness, vice-captain Axar Patel is highly likely to lead in the series

After the three-ODI series where Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to be back in action, the T20I series will begin on August 26. The T20I series will end on August 31.

After the T20I series in Bangladesh, India will tour Australia in October. The five-T20I series on Australian soil will begin on October 29 and end on November 8. In December, India will host South Africa for a multi-format series. The five-T20I series will be played from December 9 to 19.
