Cricket fans can look forward to another highly anticipated clash as India and Pakistan have been drawn into the same group for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026.
India to take on Pakistan on February 15 in T20 World Cup 2026
Contrary to widespread speculation that India might avoid playing their arch-rivals due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations, Sportstar have reported that that the fixture is on and India and Pakistan will be up against each other on February 15 in Colombo.
India's campaign opener against USA
India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group alongside three other teams, USA, Namibia, and Netherlands. Furthermore, details regarding India's initial schedule have also been released. Reportedly, Suryakumar Yadav-led India are slated to begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the USA at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on February 8. Following this opening fixture, they are scheduled to play their second match against Namibia in Delhi on February 12, building up to the crucial encounter against Pakistan.
Following their initial matches, the Indian team will travel to Colombo for the highly anticipated major game against Pakistan on February 15th. India will then feature in its final group league fixture against the Netherlands, which is scheduled to take place in Mumbai on February 18.
Once the group stages conclude, the tournament will move into the Super 8s phase. It is understood that Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Kolkata have been designated as the host cities for the Super 8 fixtures, which will be held on February 22nd, February 26th, and March 1, respectively. Should India qualify for the semifinals, their match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Reportedly, Colombo will host the first semifinal on March 4. The grand final of the entire T20 World Cup mega event is set to be held in Ahmedabad on March 8.
ICC set to announce official fixtures on November 25
The official fixture list for the tournament will be formally announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC) at a dedicated event in Mumbai on November 25.
The structure of the upcoming T20 World Cup is confirmed to follow the same pattern as the 2024 edition. In this format, the top two teams from each pool will successfully advance to the Super Eight stage. Following the conclusion of the Super Eight matches, the four best sides remaining in the tournament will proceed to compete in the semi-finals.
