It's been a decade since Team India won an ICC trophy despite entering every tournament as one of the prime contenders to secure the silverware. The last time the Men in Blue won an ICC multi-national tournament was in 2013 when MS Dhoni orchestrated the Champions Trophy win in England. In the latest, India failed to live up to their billing in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia when England ousted Rohit Sharma's men in the semi-final by registering a resounding 10-wicket win.
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal reckons that despite not winning an ICC title for almost 10 years, India continues to be one of the best teams in the sport. The 41-year-old cited example of New Zealand and South Africa, two teams that have never laid their hands on white-ball ICC tournaments while appreciating India.
"People talk about India having not won an ICC event for 10 years. You can't win every ICC event. And if winning an ICC trophy is the only criterion then teams like New Zealand and South Africa should be banned since they haven't won any. So this is just a pick. India is a great team and is playing at a different level," Akmal told Paktv.tv.
Akmal, who made his international debut two decades ago in 2022, also took a sly dig at Pakistan for not maintaining the domestic structure like how India managed to do.
"They don't have any individuals who come with their own line of thinking and destroy domestic cricket. This is exactly what's happening in Pakistan since the past 7-8 years which has caused a lot of damage," Akmal opined.
While India continues to dominate bilateral series, Pakistan have recently struggled to win matches and series even at home.
