MI New York are out of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024

Faf du Plessis's 72 off 47 balls helped Texas Super Kings to defeat MI New York by nine wickets in the eliminator one to seal their berth in qualifier 2 of the ongoing Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024 on July 25 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. After asked to bat, MI New York failed to perform with the bat but star all-rounder Rashid Khan and Monank Patel's 55 and 48 respectively helped the franchise to score 163/8 in 20 overs. However, Faf du Plessis-led TSK chased down the target in just 18.3 over by losing just one wicket.

MI New York's batting

After being asked to bat, MI New York failed to get a good start as they lost Dewald Brevis on the fourth ball of the match. Shayan Jahangir was the only top-order batter who managed to score more than 20 runs. The batter scored 26 runs off 23 balls before getting caught out on Dwayne Bravo's over. Texas Super Kings' counter-attack in chase

Super Kings openers Faf Du Plessis and Devon Conway who have been a phenomenal pair in this tournament stitched a 100-run partnership where Skipper Faf counterattacked MI bowlers neutralizing their wicket-taking abilities and Conway played the second fiddle. Du Plessis scored 72 at 47 starring six fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 153.19. TSK skipper was dismissed by Nosthush Kenjige, which turned out to be the only wicket MI managed to get in the whole match. Devon Conway’s 51 of 43 and Aaron Hardie‘s 40 of 22 balls ensured Texas Super Kings defeating their arch-rivals by 9 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare.

Interstingly, Texas Super Kings took a befitting revenge against defending champions MI New York that knocked out Super Kings in Qualifier 2 last year. Faf Du Plessis was the Player of the Match for anchoring the batting in the eliminator. Texas will become the first time to enter in qualifier 2. Their opponent for Qualifier 2 will depend upon the upcoming match between Washington Freedom and San Francisco Unicorns.
