R Ashwin retirement: Legendary Ravichandran Ashwin on August 27 announced his retirement from Indian Premier League (IPL). Spent his maiden and last season at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the franchise paid tribute to the 38-year-old who played pivotal role in their success.

Ashwin, in his retirement announcement, revealed that he would not stop playing cricket altogether but explore options in franchises T20 leagues around the world.
“They say every ending will have a new start, my time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today,” Ashwin wrote on social media.
Ashwin was roped in for Rs 9.75 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Earlier, he was a part of CSK’s two IPL title wins.
Ashwin’s statistics for CSK
Ashwin retired as CSK's third-highest run-scorer. From 130 games, he claimed 127 wickets at an average of 24.62, including a four-fer. His economy rate for CSK is 6.82 runs per over. Only two bowlers have more wickets for CSK. Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is on top with 154 wickets from 130 games followed by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja who has 152 wickets from 200 games.
Ashwin's last IPL
Ashwin's last IPL appearance for CSK was against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 20. He batted at no.4 and scored 13 runs from eight balls, including one four and a six. With the ball, he claimed two wickets and conceded 41 runs from his quota of four overs. His final two wickets were RR captain Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
In his last IPL season, he wasn't a regular in CSK side. He picked seven wickets from nine games at an average of 40.42. With the bat, he scored 33 runs from four innings at a strike rate of 110.
