India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has put out a tweet for the first time after the horrific car accident on December 30 morning. Pant thanked Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), secretary Jay Shah and government authorities for their support.
“I am humbled and grateful for all the support and good wishes. I am glad to let you know that my surgery was a success. The road to recovery has begun and I am ready for the challenges ahead. Thank you to the @BCCI, @JayShah & government authorities for their incredible support,” Pant wrote in a tweet.
“From the bottom of my heart, I also would like to thank all my fans, teammates, doctors and the physios for your kind words and encouragement. Looking forward to see you all on the field,” the southpaw wrote in another tweet.
The wicketkeeper is expected to be out of action for most part of 2023 which means he will be unavailable for Indian Premier League (IPL), World Test Championship (WTC) final (if India qualify) and ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
Pant is expected to go another surgery in six weeks for reconstruction of his knee. It will be followed by another plastic surgery. The 25-year-old is currently at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital, Mumbai.
On December 30 (Friday), Pant was involved in a devastating accident when his car hit a divider while he was traveling from Delhi to Roorkee.
In Pant's absence, India have included Srikar Bharat and Ishan Kishan in the Test squad against Australia in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy which is scheduled to commence on February 9 in Nagpur.
