After making a switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra, Prithvi Shaw impressed with the bat right away and scored a fantastic century in his maiden knock for his new team. The 25-year-old ended up scoring a terrific century against Chhattisgarh in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament.
Shaw was eventually dismissed for 111, but this knock would see him leave behind his prolonged rough patch which never seemed to end. The batter delivered in the next match as well which was against TNCA President's XI and did so by playing a fine knock of 66 runs from 96 deliveries.
Maharashtra chief selector Akshay Darekar was left throughly impressed seeing these two knocks and remarked that there was never anything wrong Shaw's batting. He added that the 25-year-old is also focused on improving his fitness and performs training drills regularly.

"Prithvi is on the right track. There was never an issue with his batting. He is focused and keen to make a statement with his bat. He is completely committed to his fitness too and has been doing his training drills religiously," Darekar told mid-Day.
"We know he always likes to play aggressively and dominate the opposition. And he batted the same way in his first two matches for Maharashtra at the Buchi Babu Tournament. His class was evident in both those knocks. He is hungry to score big runs. The target is to help Maharashtra reach the Ranji knockouts through his strong performances. The more he performs, the better it will be, not just for our team but also for him, as he can achieve his individual goals too. He realises that this upcoming season will be crucial for him and he wants to make it count," he added.
2 much-needed knocks for Shaw
The two knocks in the Buchi Babu tournament were nothing short of massive for Shaw, whose career looked to be headed nowhere at one stage. It is safe to say that the 25-year-old didn't have a great 2024 as not only did he fall down the pecking order for Mumbai due to issues with both his fitness and discipline, but he also ended up going unsold during the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
However, Shaw finally seems to be headed in the right direction after making the switch to Maharashtra in July earlier this year. His batting performance in the Buchi Babu tournament will be a major confidence booster for him and he will now be looking to maintain this form in the upcoming domestic season.
