Vidarbha beat Rest of India by 93 runs in Irani Cup.

India’s Under-19 World Cup 2022-winning captain Yash Dhull led Rest of India’s fightback against Vidarbha on Day 5 in the Irani Cup. Chasing the target of 360, Rest of India lost five wickets for just 80 runs. Dhull's counter-attacking knock helped Rest of India recover. But, he could not take Rest of India home and got dismissed by Yash Thakur, trying to clear the third man fielder. After the dismissal, Thakur and Dhull were involved in a heated exchange.

The incident took place in the 63rd over of Rest of India's run chase. The partnership for the seventh wicket between Dhull and Manav Suthar had crossed 100. Thakur was brought back into the attack. He bowled it short and Dhull tried to clear Atharva Taide but did not get enough bat on it. He got caught by Taide. As the camera panned to Dhull and Thakur, they nearly came to exchanging blows.

The on-field umpires Kannur Swaroopanand and Rohan Pandit intervened. Thakur was aggressive and was calmed down by the umpires. Meanwhile, Dhull was asked to leave the field. He departed after scoring 92 runs from 117 balls, including eight fours and a six.

However, it is not clear what led to the heated altercation between the two. But, it was enough to fuel Thakur's aggression even more. On the very next ball, he knocked over Anshul Kamboj who is capable of contributing with the bat as well.

Later, Harsh Dubey struck twice to dismiss Akash Deep and Gurnoor Brar as Rest of India were bowled out for 267. Vidarbha won the match by 93 runs. Suthar remained stranded on one end. He scored 56 runs from 113 balls, including four fours and a six. This is Vidarbha's third Irani Cup title.

Big names fail in run chase

Taide was named 'Player of the match' for his 143-run knock in the first innings. Rest of India's star players disappointed them. Discarded India opener Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 17 runs in the run chase. Ishan Kishan could not capitalise on a good start and departed for 35. Skipper Rajat Patidar and Ruturaj Gaikwad could not do much with the bat either.
