Australian opener Usman Khawaja on November 20 shared an emotional post for children suffering in Gaza after his daughter had to go to the hospital after an allergic reaction to a bite in the garden. Khawaja shared photos of her daughter Aisha using a smartphone in the hospital and triggering photos of children suffering in Gaza. He thanked his parents for bringing him to Australia and clarified that his post was not political but about human rights.
“A few days ago my daughter Aisha had to go to hospital after an allergic reaction to a bite in the garden. I'm just so grateful she can receive full medical treatment at a hospital with electricity, water and an icey treat to top it off. It breaks my heart to the point of tears that there kids out there much worse off that can not,” Khawaja wrote on Instagram.
“We are so lucky to be able to receive such care, the greatest gift my parents gave me was coming to this beautiful country. Unfortunately a lot of people aren't that lucky. You can't control where you are born or what opportunities you get in life. This isn't political it's about human rights. One child's life isn't more precious than anothers because of where they are from. It doesn't matter what race religion or colour you are. We are all equal. Who are you to judge? Sadly it doesn't always feel that way,” he further wrote.
Before Khawaja, Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan shared a post for Gaza dedicating his match-winning knock against Sri Lanka in the record-breaking run chase. Rizwan faced a lot of flak for the post.
The 36-year-old opener made his last international appearance in July 2023. In the fifth Ashes Test, he contributed with 47 and 72 in the first and second innings respectively. However, he ended up on the losing side as Australia fell short of the target of 50 runs.
Khawaja has been playing first-class cricket of late. Earlier this month, he scored a century for Queensland against South Australia in Brisbane. But once again his team did not win the contest as South Australia registered a close three-run win.
