New Zealand jumped to third on the WTC points table

New Zealand defeated West Indies by 9 wickets in 2nd Test

New Zealand defeated West Indies comprehensively by 9 wickets in the second Test of the three-match series. This win saw them not only take a 1-0 lead in the series, but also make massive gains on the World Test Championship (WTC)  points table.  The Black Caps began their WTC cycle with the ongoing series and even though the first game ended in a draw, they made sure that the won the next match in convincing fashion.

New Zealand climb to third

New Zealand have now reached the third spot on the WTC standings with a PCT of 66.67. They have so far  recorded a victory and a draw each, accumulating a total of 16 points. Them and Sri Lanka currently have the exactly same numbers on the points table as the two teams have so far had the same results and have played the same number of games. On the other hand, West Indies are yet to record a victory in the new cycle and stand at the bottom of the table with six defeats in seven Tests.

How did the match conclude?

The second Test between New Zealand and West Indies came to an end on the third day thanks to a terrific bowling display from the hosts in Wellington. The Black Caps bundled out the visitors for just 128 runs in their second innings to set up a modest target of 56. Devon Conway and Kane Williamson's innings of 28* and 16* respectively was enough for them to chase down the target in exactly 10 overs.

The third and final Test of the series between New Zealand and West Indies will be played in Mount Maunganui from December 18. It remains to be seen if the visitors will be able to make a comeback or if the hosts will go on to clinch the series.
