VVS Laxman to continue as NCA head.

He turned down an offer from an IPL franchise.

Legendary India cricketer VVS Laxman is planning to stay on the post of head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for at least one more year. In December 2021, Laxman took over as the head of the NCA for a period of three years. In September of this year, his contract was scheduled to expire. A team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) attempted to sign Laxman, but he was unable to do so because of his responsibilities as NCA head.

As per the report from ESPN Cricinfo, Laxman is likely to have the support of India's veteran domestic players as his team of coaches. It includes Shitanshu Kotak, Sairaj Bahutule, and Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Laxman gets an extension before the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) opens in Bengaluru.

In February 2022, Saurav Ganguly, the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and Laxman laid the foundation for the new facility. The current center of NCA is situated in Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium in Karnataka and was laid out in 2000 as a cricket facility of BCCI to prepare upcoming and rising cricketers who can become the future members of the Indian cricket team. It is also used for the rehabilitation process for injured Indian players. VVS Laxman is the current chief of the NCA.

As per earlier reports, India's former batting coach Vikram Rathour was expected to replace Laxman for the NCA head role as Laxman was not being expected to renew his contract. Rathour was an integral part of Rahul Dravid’s support staff which helped Rohit Sharma-led India lift the T20 World Cup 2024 and end their ICC trophy drought. The former Punjab skipper joined Dravid’s coaching staff in 2021.
