Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced 15-member squad for the ODI series against New Zealand starting on November 16. West Indies have recalled John Campbell who scored his maiden Test century on Indian soil. Campbell last played an ODI in 2019 against West Indies. With 248 runs from six innings, he averages nearly 50 in the format.
King dropped
Opener Brandon King has been dropped from the side making way for Campbell. King has managed to score just 45 runs in last five T20Is. He scored 62 runs in the ODI series against Bangladesh. His last ODI fifty came against England. His last ODI century came a year ago.
Forced changes in pace attack
As West Indies' pace attack is depleted by injuries to Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Jediah Blades, they have handed maiden ODI call-ups to Johann Layne and Shamar Springer. Also, Matthew Forde has returned to the squad. Forde played in the recently-concluded T20I series as well. Akeal Hosein, Gudakesh Motie and Ramon Simmonds who played against Bangladesh are not part of the squad. Simmonds has been injured as well.
West Indies have not won an ODI series on New Zealand soil in 30 years. Brian Lara-led West Indies beat New Zealand 3-0 in the series.
New Zealand have played 31 ODIs against West Indies at home. The BlackCaps have won 19, lost 10 whereas two ended in no result against the Men in Maroon in home conditions.
