Less than half a year ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, there have been rumours suggesting MS Dhoni has been asked by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take up the mentor role. Dhoni, who played the mentor role in T20 World Cup 2021 is unlikely to be the part of Indian dressing room for the mega event next year.
When Sports Tak asked a BCCI official, he said, "I don't comment on speculations."
The BCCI official was also asked about whether a new sponsor for Team India will be finalised before the T20 Asia Cup 2025.
“We are trying out best. It's not just Asia Cup but a full cycle of three years. It will be in public domain soon but chances of completing it in time, just before Asia Cup are slim. We are working on it. Let's see what happens,” the source said.
The response suggests that India may end up playing without a sponsor on their jersey in the T20 Asia Cup 2025.
The Suryakumar Yadav-led India will begin their campaign against UAE on September 10. India are in Group A alongside Pakistan and Hong Kong. The high voltage and controversial against Pakistan is set to take place on September 14. India and Pakistan are likely to lock horns in Super Fours as well if they go past the group stage. There is a third meeting on the cards as well if they reach the final.
The 15-member squad will leave for Dubai on September 4. The five standby players will not be travelling with the squad. They will fly to Dubai in case of an injury.
