India’s superstar batter Smriti Mandhana notched up a towering World Record during fourth T20I against Sri Lanka women at the at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on December 28.

Smriti Mandhana, fastest woman cricketer to amass 10000 international runs

She became the fastest woman cricketer to complete 10000 international runs in terms of innings. The southpaw brought her 10000 international runs in just 281 innings, surpassing her captain Harmanpreet Kaur's 291.

Not just this, she also became only the fourth woman in world cricket and the second Indian to surpass 10,000 international runs. Entering the contest just 27 runs shy of the mark, Mandhana reached the milestone with a composed push to long-on, solidifying her status as a modern-day great across all three formats.

With this feat, Mandhana joins an incredibly exclusive circle of elite batters. She now stands alongside India’s legendary Mithali Raj (10,868 runs), New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (10,652 runs), and England’s Charlotte Edwards (10,273 runs). Having amassed her total over 279 international matches, Mandhana is the second Indian woman to breach the five-figure mark, following in the footsteps of her former captain, Mithali Raj.

The record-breaking moment unfolded in a match where India already held a commanding 3-0 lead in the five-game series. After Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl, Mandhana and her opening partner, Shafali Verma, provided a masterclass in powerplay batting. While Shafali took on the role of the aggressor, Mandhana played with her trademark elegance, helping India race to 61 runs in the first six overs. By the time Mandhana reached the 10,000-run milestone, the opening pair had firmly put the hosts in the driver’s seat.
