Yashasvi Jaiswal says 'will wait for my time' as selectors keep him out of T20Is, dreams of playing T20 World Cup
India's Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrates after scoring his maiden ODI century against South Africa.

Story Highlights:

Yashasvi Jaiswal hasn't played a T20I since July 2024.

Jaiswal dreams of playing T20 World Cup.

India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has been backed by many as an all-format player. With Abhishek Sharma stamping his authority as opener and Shubman Gill backed as vice-captain in the format, Jaiswal doesn’t have a place in the current T20I squad which is unlikely to be tinkered with for the T20 World Cup 2026. On ‘Agenda AajTak Conclave’, Jaiswal was asked about continued snub from the T20I lineup. The opener intends to wait for his time to make a mark, similar to what he did in ODIs with a century in Visakhapatnam against South Africa.

“My dream is to play the T20 World Cup, but I try to focus on my game and will wait for my time,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals (RR) are yet to announce their new captain after trading Sanju Samson to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction. While Jaiswal hasn’t led RR, two other captaincy options in the RR franchise are veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Riyan Parag.

Despite several chances, Gill is yet to deliver a match-winning knock since his return to the T20Is after Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli bid goodbye to the format.

Jaiswal to play SMAT 2025

Jaiswal, who is not part of the T20I squad facing South Africa, will be back in T20 action for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 Super League stage. Mumbai are scheduled to take on Hyderabad in Group B clash at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on December 12.

The southpaw’s last T20 appearance was in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 league stage clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Jaiswal’s T20 numbers

From 23 T20I games, Jaiswal has 723 runs at an average of 36.15 and strike rate of 164.31. He has one century and five half-centuries.

So far, he has played 118 T20s and scored 3,537 runs at an average of 33.05 and strike rate of 151.67. He has three centuries and 23 fifties.
