Young MI power-hitter is most expensive at SA 20 League Auction: Here's a full list of players, squads and big-money buys

South Africa's young wicketkeeper-batter Tristan Stubbs was the most expensive of the 314 players who went under the hammer at the inaugural auction of the first edition of the Proteas' SA 20 League on Monday, September 19. It was an action-packed process that involved all six teams. Some big names set bidding on fire, while others, including national team captain Temba Bavuma and Dean Elgar, went unsold.

Stubbs, who plays for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League, was the costliest of the lot, going for a massive R 9.1 million (Rs 4.1 crore). The 22-year-old triggered a bidding war between MI Cape Town and JoBurg Super Kings. But MI Cape Town went up to R 7 million but it was the SunRisers Eastern Cape who eventually bought him.

Former England captain Eoin Morgan and New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham, who recently gave up his national contract, were among the ones who went unsold initially only to find takers in the accelerated round of the auction.

Joburg Super Kings, MI Cape Town and SunRisers Eastern Cape seem to have assembled powerful line-ups with the Super Kings stacking their team with pace for to suit the Highveld conditions.

Notably, all teams were allowed to pick as many as 5 players in the pre-auction draft for the inaugural edition of the SA 20 league, which will be held in January 2023. All teams are owned by the franchise owners of Indian Premier League teams.
