Rinku Singh of India celebrates with the trophy following the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium on March 08, 2026 in Ahmedabad, India.

Story Highlights:

Rinku Singh rejoined Team India camp shortly after his father's death.

Rinku Singh recalled his father taught him to put duty above everything else.

India’s designated finisher Rinku Singh went through a tough phase during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. During the Super 8 stage of the tournament, Rinku had to return home to meet his ailing father on life support. Before the must-win game against West Indies, Rinku’s father passed away. But, Rinku did not take much time off even when he wasn’t part of the playing eleven. As a substitute fielder in the last few games of the tournament, he gave his all, helping India win the T20 World Cup 2026 title at home, a first-of-its-kind feat. A couple of days after the triumph, Rinku penned an emotional tribute for his late father, Khanchand Singh.

“Aapse baat kiye bina itne din kabhi nahi nikale. Mujhe nahi pata aage ki zindagi aapke bina kaise chalegi… par mujhe har kadam par aapki zaroorat padegi,” Rinku wrote in an Instagram post.

“Aapne sikhaya tha ki farz sabse aage hai.. toh field par bas aapka sapna poora karne ki koshish kar raha tha. Ab aapka sapna pura ho gaya hai…. toh bas yahi lagta hai ki kash aap mere paas hote.

“Har chhoti badi khushi mein aapki kami khalegi. Bohot miss karunga aapko Papa... bohot zyada.”

Here’s the translation of Rinku’s post

I've never spent so many days without talking to you. I don't know how life will go on without you... but I'll need you at every step.

You taught me that duty comes first... so I was just trying to fulfill your dream on the field. Now that your dream has come true... I just wish you were with me.

I'll miss you in every small and big happiness. I'll miss you a lot, Papa... a lot.

Rinku’s cameo vs Pakistan

Rinku played five games in the tournament. His best with the bat came against Pakistan in Colombo when he scored 11 runs from just four balls, including a four and a six each.

As Rinku rejoined the group, head coach Gautam Gambhir had told him “you’re not alone” during a team huddle. He got the support of teammates in the dressing room.

What’s next for Rinku?

Rinku will be seen in action again in Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) jersey in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He is likely to play a huge role, batting in the middle order for the Ajinkya Rahane-led side.
