Bangladesh will start their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against West Indies.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin next month in February. However, a dispute between Bangladesh, the BCCI, and the ICC has emerged just before the marquee event. The conflict started after the BCCI refused to allow Bangladesh player Mustafizur Rahman to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. In response, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and their interim government have raised objections, and Bangladesh now reportedly does not want to play their World Cup matches in India. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi players are likely to face major financial losses, as SG, an Indian cricket equipment company, may terminate contracts with some players.

Trouble facing Bangladeshi players

Due to growing diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh, the BCCI barred Bangladeshi players from featuring in the IPL 2026. This has further strained relations. According to reports from Cricbuzz, several players, including T20 captain Litton Das, have contracts with SG, which could now be at risk. If SG terminates these agreements, players could lose millions of rupees. While one cricketer has denied these claims, a final decision may still be taken in the near future.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. Several Bangladeshi players, including captain Litton Das, have contracts with SG, and any withdrawal could affect them financially. The ongoing confrontation with the Indian Cricket Board could hurt both Bangladesh cricket and its players. Cricket fans hope the issue will be resolved and that Bangladesh will participate smoothly in the tournament.
