Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that they haven't received any information from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding a potential change in Bangladesh's venues for the 2026 T20 World Cup. He remarked that the matter is currently under discussion between ICC and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Saikia also said that if the ICC does approve a change of venues for Bangladesh, then the BCCI will take the necessary steps.
“The BCCI has not received any communication regarding the matter of shifting Bangladesh matches to Chennai or anywhere else, and it is beyond our control. It is a matter of communication between the BCB and the ICC, as the ICC is the governing body. If the ICC conveys any decision to us regarding a change of venue, the BCCI, as the host, will take the necessary steps. At present, we are not privy to any such information," Saikia was quoted as saying to IANS.
The whole saga between BCCI and BCB
This comes amid the ongoing stand-off between BCCI and BCB that has seen the latter write to ICC and request them for a change in Bangladesh's venues for the upcoming World Cup that is set to be played in India and Sri Lanka. It all began with Mustafizur Rahman being released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from their squad for IPL 2026.
Following this, the BCB had decided to hold an emergency meeting and had ordered a ban on IPL's broadcast in the country. They are not in favour of letting the team travel to India for the T20 World Cup due to security concerns in the country and want their matches to be held in Sri Lanka and wrote to the ICC regarding the matter.
ICC rejects BCB's request
However, their request of changing venues was rejected by the ICC and they have told them to adhere to the existing schedule. But, the BCB remains adamant to not let the team travel to India and they have sent another letter to the global cricket body, once again requesting them to shift their venues. It remains to be seen as to where will the Tigers play their share of matches in the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group C alongside the likes of England, Italy, Nepal and West Indies. They will begin their campaign with the clash against West Indies on February 7.
